Today: seaweed as the hero of the story.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">3D Ocean Farming<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">On the east coast of the United States, former fisherman Bren Smith grows oysters and other shellfish, and alongside them kelp: a large brown seaweed with remarkable properties. His method is called 3D Ocean Farming: vertical growing lines in the water on which seaweed and shellfish grow at different depths.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The result is threefold: fresh shellfish reach the plate, underwater ecosystems recover (shellfish filter the water, seaweed absorbs nutrients and CO2), and the harvested kelp serves as a sustainable raw material for animal feed, cosmetics and fertiliser.
